Notes From A Dog Walker
It’s amazing the benefits a dog gets from a simple walk. Being dog walkers since 2011, we’ve been able to witness high energy dogs and dogs with obsessive behaviors, relax and feel satisfied after just a 30 minute walk. A walk is not only good for a dog physically, but mentally too. Dogs need to get outside to smell new smells, and see new things. Dogs need adventure. Just a simple walk helps satisfy them physically as well as mentally. Our dog Ofi used to get two walks a day. Ofi is a Rottweiler/Aussie Mix. When we had our first baby, he missed his regular walks for a couple months. He started chewing on his bed…he destroyed 2 of them before we could get him back on a regular walking schedule. As soon as he got his exercise and mental stimulation from being walked, he didn’t chew on his bed anymore – his needs were being met. We’ve walked many high energy dogs, and it’s so great to see how they behave after the walk, compared to the beginning. When we first arrive, they normally are jumping, going in circles, are all over the place, and want to pull you down the street. About 5-10 minutes into the walk, they start calming down, and by the end, they seem very satisfied, panting, and ready for a nap. This is one thing we love about our job; we get to see the happy benefits of giving dogs what they need!
